WOMEN FALL BY THE WAYSIDE OF THE AUCTIONEER’S HAMMER

Women shy away from confrontations with men - according to DVLA Personalised Registrations.

So far this year, of the 9,400 people who have registered to bid for private registrations at the four public auctions staged across the UK, less than nine per cent were women despite private plates proving popular with female drivers.

Of the 774 people signed up to bid at the three-day auction at The Haycock Hotel, Cambridgeshire, from September 24, only two women are registered to appear in person despite the huge array of female-related registrations that will go under the hammer.

Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: "We know private registrations are extremely popular with women, and yet our statistics show few actually turn up to our auctions and bid.

"Our auctions are extremely visitor friendly, they’re far from the last bastion for men and yet women are staying away. All we can presume is that they’re avoiding doing battles with the guys."
